The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) invites the public to a come-and-go community workshop on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, to learn about the South Padre Island Second Access Project. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the South Padre Island Convention Center, located at 7355 Padre Blvd.
The workshop aims to share details about the project’s history, current environmental studies, and present potential alternative routes connecting the Texas mainland to South Padre Island. The public will have the opportunity to review maps, display boards, and give feedback. No formal presentation is planned, and attendees may drop in at their convenience.
The South Padre Island Second Access Project is currently in the environmental study phase, which is evaluating potential routes across the Laguna Madre. The project’s primary goal is to improve mobility and enhance public safety, especially during emergency evacuations.
A virtual version of the workshop will also go live on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, by 5 p.m. The same information presented at the in-person workshop will be available online at TxDOT.gov by searching “South Padre Island Second Access.” Materials will remain accessible throughout the study period, and virtual participants will also have opportunities to submit comments.
