BROWNSVILLE, TX – Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) crews have successfully restored water service to all affected customers following a water outage in the downtown area caused by contractor damage to a water line.

The outage, which impacted customers between Palm Boulevard and International Boulevard, began when a contractor accidentally damaged a water main, prompting BPUB crews to take immediate action.

At approximately 7:23 p.m., BPUB crews halted the leak and began restoration efforts. Due to safety concerns, some customers experienced a temporary power outage after eroding dirt caused a nearby electrical pole to lean severely.

By early morning, 55 customers between E. 9th Street and E. 11th Street, and E. Madison Street and E. Jackson Street, remained without water. Crews worked through the morning, removing the damaged section and installing a new one.

By 1:08 p.m., crews were in the process of opening valves to restore service to the remaining customers, and by 1:55 p.m., full service was restored.

BPUB thanks customers for their patience as crews worked diligently to resolve the issue safely and efficiently.
