Brownsville Fire & EMS Maintain Rapid Response to Serve Growing Community

As Brownsville continues to grow, the City’s Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) departments remain committed to delivering fast, reliable emergency response to nearly 200,000 residents.

The Brownsville Fire and Rescue Department responds to structure fires and accident calls in under seven minutes on average, demonstrating consistent efficiency during critical incidents. Over the past year, Fire and Rescue handled more than 13,000 calls for service related to fires and accidents.

Beyond serving city residents, the department also responds to calls throughout Cameron County under a 28E interlocal agreement, strengthening regional emergency response and ensuring seamless support across jurisdictional lines.

Brownsville Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also continues to provide rapid, lifesaving care, with average response times of under six minutes. In the past year, EMS responded to more than 24,600 medical emergencies, delivering timely assistance in life-threatening situations. Like Fire and Rescue, EMS extends its services beyond city limits through the countywide 28E agreement.

 Through strong regional partnerships and consistent response performance, Brownsville Fire and EMS remain dedicated to protecting lives and safeguarding the community when every second counts.
