Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center hosts “Reading Buddies” program for young readers

Families looking for a meaningful and fun activity for their children are invited to attend Reading Buddies at the Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

This heartwarming program gives children ages 5–15 the opportunity to read aloud to shelter pets, helping shy animals become more comfortable around people while encouraging children to practice and build confidence in their reading skills in a calm and supportive environment.

Reading Buddies is held on the third Saturday of every month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center, located at 416 FM 511 in Olmito, Texas. Parents or guardians are required to remain present during the event.

Due to limited space, pre-registration is required and walk-ins cannot be accepted. Families can register by calling (956) 544-7351.

Participants are encouraged to bring their Reading Buddies passports and their favorite book, though books will also be available on-site for children to enjoy.

The program provides a wonderful opportunity for young readers to develop literacy skills, show kindness to animals, and make a few furry friends along the way.

For more information or to reserve a spot, contact the Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center at (956) 544-7351.
