Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) is now accepting applications for the BIG LIFT Small Business Improvement Grant Program in District 1, offering local small businesses an opportunity to invest in exterior property improvements and enhance their visibility within the community. BIG LIFT is a reimbursement grant program that helps locally owned businesses complete exterior improvement projects by covering up to 80 percent of approved project costs, with reimbursements of up to $30,000. Eligible improvements include façade renovations, signage, lighting, landscaping, parking lot resurfacing, murals, and other projects designed to improve the appearance and functionality of commercial properties.
To be eligible, businesses must: Be locally owned and operated Be located within Brownsville city limits Have been in operation for at least two years Employ fewer than 20 employees To ensure equitable access across the community, the BIG LIFT program is being rolled out one district at a time. Application periods are as follows: District 1: June 1 – July 10, 2026 (Applications Open Now) District 2: September 1 – October 9, 2026 District 3: December 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027 District 4: March 1 – April 19, 2027 District 1 business owners are encouraged to submit their applications before the July 10 deadline.
