McALLEN, Texas – The Council for South Texas Economic Progress and the Electrical-Electronics Cluster of Tamaulipas have signed an agreement intended to strengthen manufacturing, workforce development and economic cooperation across Rio South Texas and northern Tamaulipas.
The organizations signed the memorandum of understanding July 24 at the International Museum of Art & Science in McAllen. COSTEP CEO Adam Gonzalez said the agreement is designed to connect manufacturers, schools, economic development organizations and communities throughout the binational region.
COSTEP’s industrial database identifies 316 manufacturing companies across Rio South Texas and northern Tamaulipas. Of those companies, 104 operate in the electrical and electronics sector and supply products or services to 95 companies worldwide, according to the organization.
The Tamaulipas cluster represents more than 100 electrical and electronics companies. The partnership will focus on workforce training, innovation, digitalization, supplier development and stronger business connections on both sides of the border.
COSTEP officials said regional assets including international bridges, rail links, airports and the Port of Brownsville can help the combined region compete for additional industrial investment.
