As students head back to the classroom, the City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department is giving local children and teens a fun, active, and welcoming place to spend their afternoons. Beginning Monday, August 17, the After School Recreation Program (ASRP) returns with free weekday activities for Brownsville youth ages 5 to 17. Registration is now open, and families are encouraged to sign up early because space is limited.
The program offers a variety of activities designed to keep participants engaged after the school day ends. Children and teens can enjoy arts and crafts, seasonal activities, recreational sports, games, and homework help while spending time with their peers in a supervised recreation setting. ASRP will be available at two Brownsville Parks and Recreation locations: Downtown Rec Center (DRC) — 1338 E.
8th St. Antonio Gonzalez Park — 34 Tony Gonzalez Dr. Programming takes place Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Participants will also receive a free daily dinner from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Best of all, participation is completely free. Space is limited to 30 participants at each location, and a signed parent or guardian permission form is required.
Whether students want to get moving on the court, explore their creativity through arts and crafts, tackle homework, or simply enjoy time with friends, ASRP offers families another way to make the most of the school year.
