BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Brownsville’s Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Cultural District has been designated a Texas Cultural District by the Texas Commission on the Arts.
The designation adds Brownsville to the state’s network of recognized cultural districts and may open additional funding opportunities for nonprofit arts organizations within the district.
The Mitte Cultural District is centered near Dean Porter Park and includes local arts, historic, educational and cultural organizations. District leaders said the recognition reflects years of work by artists, performers, businesses, educators and community partners.
