BROWNSVILLE, Texas – A new interactive map is helping Brownsville property owners identify whether their buildings may be eligible for state and federal historic tax credits.
The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation map identifies 306 historic properties. Of those, 278 could potentially qualify for both state and federal tax credits, according to information provided by BCIC.
Inclusion on the map does not guarantee eligibility. Owners must still apply for the credits, and renovation plans must comply with historic preservation requirements.
BCIC advises property owners to begin the application process before starting work because unapproved changes may affect a project’s eligibility. The map also provides contacts and guidance for city, state and federal review steps.
