Brownsville Commission Considers Traffic, Landfill and Metro Actions

The Brownsville City Commission will meet Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 5 p.m. at Brownsville City Hall – Old Federal Building, 1001 E. Elizabeth St.

Commissioners will hold public hearings on ordinances that would establish a Municipal Drainage Utility System and a municipal drainage utility fee, including provisions for service, billing, exemptions and credits.

The Commission will also hold the second of three public hearings on a temporary moratorium involving applications for high-intensity data processing facilities within Brownsville and its extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Among the items scheduled for consideration are a $4.4 million contract for International Boulevard traffic-signal improvements, a $7.1 million traffic-signal communication-development contract, a $2.5 million traffic monitoring and management project involving signalized roadways, and a contract of up to approximately $3.7 million for Landfill Cell No. 6 and related site improvements.

Brownsville Metro items include proposed free fixed-route and paratransit service on the Nov. 3, 2026, Election Day; May 1, 2027, Election Day; and the H-E-B Feast of Sharing on Nov. 11, 2026.
