SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas — South Padre Island has completed the third phase of improvements to its public pickleball courts, adding amenities intended to improve accessibility, comfort and use of the recreation area.
The completed work includes an ADA-accessible restroom, a hydration station, shade structures and additional fencing, according to a report on the project. The upgrades build on the island’s existing pickleball facilities as participation in the sport continues to grow.
A ribbon-cutting planned for Oct. 6 was canceled because of weather conditions. Island officials have not announced a new ceremony date.
The courts remain a public recreation option for residents and visitors. BTX Today will update this report when the city announces any rescheduled event or additional programming.
