Mr. Amigo organizers have announced Álex Fernández as the 2026 Mr. Amigo, continuing one of the festival’s most enduring traditions that celebrates friendship, cultural pride, and cross-border unity.
The Mr. Amigo honor is one of the most recognized distinctions associated with Charro Days, awarded annually to individuals whose leadership, service, and cultural influence reflect the values at the heart of the celebration and its deep ties to Mexican heritage.
Álex Fernández is a prominent performer of Mexican regional music and a member of the well-known Fernández musical family. He is the grandson of legendary ranchera singer Vicente Fernández and the son of Alejandro Fernández, and has continued the family legacy through his own work celebrating traditional music and cultural identity.
The Fernández family holds a unique place in Charro Days history. Vicente Fernández was named Mr. Amigo in 1977, and his son, Vicente Fernández Jr., received the honor in 2009, making Álex Fernández the third member of his family to be selected for the prestigious title.
As the 2026 Mr. Amigo, Fernández will serve as an ambassador for Charro Days, participating in community events and official festivities leading up to the annual celebration. His selection highlights the lasting connection between Charro Days and the cultural traditions that unite communities on both sides of the border.
Charro Days remains one of Brownsville’s most celebrated annual events, honoring the city’s history, heritage, and strong sense of community through a series of cultural and family-friendly activities.
