Brownsville Police and Fire Departments Partner for Community Blood Drive Competition

The Brownsville Police Department and the Brownsville Fire Department are teaming up for a friendly competition to save lives.

Both departments are encouraging the community to participate in an upcoming blood drive in support of South Texas Blood & Tissue. The department that brings in the most donors will earn bragging rights, but officials say the real victory is supporting patients in need across the region.

The blood drive will take place on March 2 and March 3 at the Brownsville Events Center, located at 1 Event Drive.

Community members are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and donate, as each contribution can make a significant difference. One blood donation, typically one pint, can save up to three lives. This is because donated blood is separated into three main components: red blood cells, plasma, and platelets. Each component can be used to treat patients with different conditions, including cancer patients, trauma victims, and individuals undergoing surgery.

City officials invite residents to support their local first responders, participate in the friendly challenge, and help make a life-saving impact in someone’s time of need.
