The City of Brownsville is helping local tire businesses prepare for requirements under Municipal Tire Ordinance 2026-1798, which took effect Oct. 1, 2026.
Under the ordinance, tire businesses, scrap-tire generators and tire haulers are required to obtain an annual license and follow rules related to tire storage, tire identification and other measures intended to support responsible tire management.
City officials said the ordinance is intended to help keep the community clean and safe while addressing the handling and storage of used tires.
Businesses affected by the ordinance may contact the City of Brownsville for information about compliance requirements.
