Brush and Bulky Item Pickup Services Help Residents Manage Waste Responsibly

The City of Brownsville is reminding residents about its scheduled Brush and Bulky Item Pickup services provided by Republic Services. These services are designed to help keep neighborhoods clean and clutter-free while promoting proper waste disposal. The pickup service allows for the proper disposal of acceptable brush and bulky items. Approved brush materials include tree limbs, shrubs, grass, and leaves, with the latter two required to be securely bagged. Acceptable bulky items include furniture such as sofas, tables, and chairs, as well as large household appliances like mattresses, washers, dryers, water heaters, and stoves.

Items containing Freon, such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units, must have the Freon removed by a professional. These items must also display a decal from a certified facility verifying removal. Items that do not meet these requirements will not be collected. To ensure public safety and proper processing, the following materials are not accepted: construction and demolition debris, roof shingles, sheet rock, concrete, asphalt, lumber, and cardboard boxes. Additional prohibited items include liquids, hazardous waste, bricks, dirt, car parts, household garbage, and appliances containing Freon without a proper decal.

To determine your sector, please refer to the following geographic boundaries: Sector 1 includes all areas north of Boca Chica Boulevard and west of Paredes Line Road. Scheduled pickup weeks for Sector 1 are: August 3-7, August 21-September 4, October 5-9, November 2-6, and November 30-December 4. Sector 2 covers the area south of Boca Chica Boulevard and west of Expressway 77. Brush will be collected in Sector 2 during the weeks of August 10-14, September 7-11, October 12-16, November 9-13, and December 7-11. Sector 3 includes all areas north of Boca Chica Boulevard and east of Paredes Line Road. The scheduled collection weeks for Sector 3 are: July 20-24, August 17-21, September 14-18, October 19-23, November 16-20, and December 14-18.

Sector 4 covers the area south of Boca Chica Boulevard and east of Expressway 77. Brush will be picked up during the weeks of July 27-31, August 24-28, September 21-25, October 26-30, November 23-27, and December 21-25. Residents are encouraged to place their items at the curb one week prior to their sector’s scheduled pickup date. Collection trucks will make only one pass through each neighborhood and will not return for items placed out late. To avoid disruptions, items should not be placed within six feet of gas or water meters, telephone service boxes, overhead wires, parked cars, or under building overhangs. Brush and bulky items should also be placed in separate piles.

This service is part of the City of Brownsville’s continued commitment to maintaining clean and healthy neighborhoods for all residents.
