BROWNSVILLE, Texas — A former Cameron County District Attorney’s Office employee and another person were arrested Friday in a case involving allegations that prohibited drugs were brought into a county jail.
Claudia Garcia was charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance and bringing a prohibited item into a correctional facility. Robert Johnathon Vargas was charged with bringing a prohibited item into a correctional facility.
District Attorney Luis V. Saenz said investigators from his office assisted in the investigation. He said the case involving Garcia would be presented to a grand jury, which will determine whether there is sufficient evidence for an indictment.
Both defendants were awaiting magistration when the arrests were announced. Court records detailing the alleged conduct and the quantity or type of controlled substance were not immediately available in the initial report.
The charges are allegations. Garcia and Vargas are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
