This week’s Friday with the City, hosted by the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Brownsville, brought community members together for a special edition focused on roads and infrastructure. Held at the Communications and Marketing/Convention and Visitors Bureau Complex, the event highlighted the City’s efforts to enhance transportation through sustainable funding strategies.
The conversation centered on the Capital Recovery Fee (CRF), a one-time fee applied to new developments to help fund roadway infrastructure that supports Brownsville’s continued growth. City Manager Helen Ramirez, ICMA-CM, AICP, Assistant City Manager Doroteo Garcia, and Multimodal Transportation Department Director Joel Garza led the presentation.
During the event, officials explained how the CRF plays a vital role in ensuring that new developments contribute their fair share to the infrastructure they will use. This helps to manage growth responsibly, improve roads across the city, and reduce the financial burden on existing taxpayers.
The City also outlined a range of waivers and exemptions available under the CRF program to support equity and targeted growth.
As Brownsville grows, city leaders emphasize their commitment to thoughtful planning, transparent funding, and ongoing community engagement.
