The Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau and Office of Space Commerce has officially received the prestigious designation of “Texas Tourism Friendly City” from the Office of the Governor of the State of Texas, Economic Development and Tourism Division.
A formal ceremony was held on Thursday, where a representative from the Governor’s Economic Development and Tourism Division presented the certificate to city officials, recognizing Brownsville’s achievements in tourism and hospitality.
In 2024, Brownsville welcomed more than 10.2 million visitors, generating a record $2.3 million in hotel occupancy revenue. These funds were reinvested into local events, tourism initiatives, and destination development efforts, helping to elevate Brownsville’s status as a hub for culture, history, ecotourism, and space innovation.
This recognition marks a significant milestone for Brownsville, the only city and Convention & Visitors Bureau in the Rio Grande Valley (including Cameron and Hidalgo Counties) to receive this state-level distinction.
City leaders say the award reflects years of strategic effort, collaboration, and dedication to showcasing Brownsville’s unique offerings to the world.
