The Brownsville ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the administrative recommendation of Anna Gaucin as Chief of Police for the district. Gaucin, who brings over 20 years of experience in law enforcement and education, will oversee a department of 73 police officers and 53 security officers.
Gaucin served with Brownsville ISD Police and Security Services Department from 2003–2019, advancing from Patrol Officer to Police Commander. She holds Master Peace Officer certification and specialized training in School Based Law Enforcement and Mental Health Peace Officer practices.
Superintendent Dr. Jesus Chávez said Gaucin’s unique combination of law enforcement expertise and educational insight makes her ideal for the position. “Her extensive experience within our district and her deep understanding of our school community will strengthen our campus safety efforts,” he said.
Since 2019, Gaucin has taught criminal justice at Rivera Early College High School and was recognized by the Texas Education Agency as an exemplary teacher. During her time at Rivera, she coached mock trial, advised student organizations and served as class sponsor.
Her leadership extends beyond the classroom through her continued service as a Reserve Officer with BISD Police and Security since 2020 and her role on the Texas Southmost College Criminal Justice Institute Advisory Board since 2014. This dual perspective in both education and law enforcement uniquely positions her to understand the complex challenges facing school safety today.
Gaucin expresses her gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the district’s next chief of police. “As a proud BISD graduate, I have a deep connection to our community and a strong commitment to protecting and supporting our students and staff. My promise is to lead with respect, integrity and a heart for service,” she said.
Chief Gaucin will oversee campus security operations across all district facilities, coordinate emergency response protocols and work closely with campus administrators to maintain safe learning environments. Her appointment reflects the district’s commitment to experienced leadership that understands both the security needs and educational mission of its schools. Information regarding the upcoming swearing-in ceremony is forthcoming.
