Summer break has arrived, and the Gladys Porter Zoo is giving children the opportunity to turn their vacation into an unforgettable wildlife adventure.
The Zoo’s popular Summer Safari program returns this June with a variety of educational classes, week-long camps, and overnight experiences designed to immerse children in the fascinating world of animals, conservation, and nature.
The program offers activities for multiple age groups, including two-day classes for children as young as 4 years old and week-long camps for children ages 7 and older. Each session focuses on a unique aspect of the animal kingdom, giving participants hands-on learning experiences centered around reptiles, birds, mammals, rainforest wildlife, sea turtles, aquatic ecosystems, and more.
Campers will also explore topics such as animal habitats, zookeeping, and conservation efforts. Older participants may even receive a behind-the-scenes look at zoo operations, learning how animals are cared for, how exhibits are maintained, and what it takes to keep a modern zoo running.
For those looking for an even more memorable experience, the adventure continues after the sun goes down. Summer Safari camps include a Starlight Safari Sleepover on Fridays, where campers can enjoy nighttime zoo tours, games, and activities while learning about the behaviors of nocturnal animals.
