Drivers in Brownsville can expect a smoother ride as the City's Department of Engineering and Public Works completes a mill-and-overlay project at Ridgely Road and Ringgold Road. The street improvement project is part of Brownsville's ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing its transportation infrastructure through the City's Capital Improvement Plan. The $59,250 project includes resurfacing approximately 990 feet of Ridgely Road from 19th Street to Ringgold Road and 823 feet of Ringgold Road from Ridgely Road to Gorgas Drive. Work on the project began Monday and paving is expected to be completed today.
One of the biggest benefits of the project is that the work is being performed by the Department of Engineering and Public Works' in-house crews. By using City employees and equipment, Brownsville can complete essential roadway improvements while reducing project costs and maximizing taxpayer dollars. Mill-and-overlay projects remove the worn top layer of pavement and replace it with new asphalt, creating a smoother driving surface, extending the life of the roadway, and improving safety for motorists.
