The City of Brownsville is helping local tire businesses prepare for new requirements under Municipal Tire Ordinance 2026-1798, which goes into effect October 1, 2026.
Under the ordinance, tire businesses, scrap tire generators, and tire haulers will be required to obtain an annual license and follow requirements related to proper tire storage, tire identification, and other measures designed to promote responsible tire management and help keep the community clean and safe.
To help affected businesses understand the new requirements and prepare for compliance, the City will host free informational workshops in English and Spanish at two Brownsville Public Library locations.

The workshops will give business owners, scrap tire generators, and tire haulers an opportunity to learn more about the ordinance, understand what will be required beginning October 1, and get answers to their questions before the new regulations take effect.
Businesses affected by the ordinance are encouraged to attend one of the free sessions and prepare early.
