Representatives from the Greater Brownsville Economic Development Corporation, Texas Southmost College and Brownsville Independent School District recently came together for a Career and Technical Summit focused on strengthening the connection between education, workforce training and local industry.
The summit brought education and economic development partners to the same table to discuss the skills students will need as Brownsville continues to grow and attract new industries.
Participants were encouraged to share their expertise, identify areas of workforce demand and explore opportunities to better prepare students for careers available in the region.
The overall goal is to create a stronger pipeline connecting students with relevant training, career opportunities and local employers.
As part of the initiative, the participating organizations will continue researching potential areas of industry and workforce development throughout the school year.
The timeline presented during the summit includes identifying and developing areas of industry by November 2026, followed by a formal presentation of findings to the Brownsville ISD School Board and Texas Southmost College Board in February 2027.
By April 2027, the groups expect to begin planning for potential program development and pursuing any additional approvals or accreditation that may be required.
The collaboration is aimed at ensuring students have access to training that reflects both current workforce needs and emerging career opportunities in Brownsville.
By bringing together education and economic development partners, the initiative seeks to strengthen community and industry connections while giving students clearer pathways from the classroom to the workforce.
