Old Alice Road Expansion Begins in Los Fresnos Area

LOS FRESNOS, Texas – Cameron County has begun the Old Alice Road Expansion Project, which will rebuild about 4.88 miles of two-lane rural roadway into a four-lane urban roadway with a center left-turn lane, shoulders and sidewalks.

Construction is expected to begin in September and finish by May 2028. County officials said the project is intended to improve connectivity between Brownsville and the Los Fresnos area while increasing capacity, safety and mobility.

The work also includes reconstruction and repaving near the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center, improving access for Sheriff’s Office personnel and emergency response vehicles, according to the county.
