BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Brownsville City Commission acted on housing, development, public safety, water infrastructure and community planning matters during its Sept. 22 special meeting.
Commissioners received a Housing Plan update. The plan is expected to be completed in December 2026 or January 2027 after community engagement that included two open houses, 242 surveys and more than 1,000 interactions. Affordability, homeownership, infrastructure and neighborhood quality were identified as priorities.
The commission reviewed proposed Historic Design Standards, approved several land-use items, continued a public hearing on proposed Unified Development Code amendments to Nov. 3, and approved an updated Master Fee Schedule.
Commissioners also advanced water infrastructure projects involving the city, BPUB, the Southmost Regional Water Authority and SpaceX; reactivated the Environmental and Conservation Task Force; and approved the police collective bargaining agreement. A resolution supporting Cameron County’s acquisition of the B&M International Bridge was tabled.
