The Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center is inviting local families to join a community event that benefits both children and shelter pets. On Saturday, November 15, the center will host Reading Buddies, a program that pairs young readers with adoptable animals for an afternoon of stories, smiles, and wagging tails.
The concept is simple yet meaningful, children ages 5 to 15 bring a favorite book or borrow one on-site, find a furry listener, and read aloud. The gentle rhythm of a child’s voice helps calm the animals, making them more comfortable around people and, in turn, more adoptable.
For the kids, Reading Buddies offers a fun and supportive way to build reading confidence while learning empathy and compassion for animals. For the pets, it’s a chance to enjoy companionship and positive human interaction in a peaceful setting.
Staff members hope the event will inspire families to consider adoption. Whether your child is shy about reading or simply loves animals, Reading Buddies is a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
