Linda C. Macias

City Commissioner, District 2

Linda C. Macias serves as the City Commissioner for District 2 on the Brownsville City Commission. She was elected on May 6, 2023, and sworn into office on May 16, 2023. Her term runs through May 2027. District 2 represents a diverse and vibrant area of the Brownsville community.

A lifelong Brownsville resident, Commissioner Macias brings extensive experience in public service, youth advocacy, and counseling. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Her career has included serving as a dispatcher with the Brownsville Police Department, working with the Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department, and spending nearly a decade as a licensed professional counselor supporting high school students and families.

Since taking office, Commissioner Macias has focused on improving quality of life in District 2 through infrastructure upgrades, neighborhood revitalization, economic development, and public health initiatives. One of the most significant accomplishments during her tenure was the successful resolution of long-standing community concerns related to the Milwhite, Inc. industrial facility. Through coordinated efforts, the City reached an agreement that resulted in the facility closing operations in 2025, addressing health and environmental concerns raised by nearby residents.

Commissioner Macias has also supported several neighborhood improvements, including drainage infrastructure upgrades in the Tradition Estates area, new bus shelters along major corridors such as Ruben Torres Sr. Boulevard, and park improvements at Charles Martin Cabler Park. She has worked alongside City departments to organize neighborhood cleanup efforts that promote environmental health and community pride.

Economic growth has also continued in District 2, highlighted by new commercial investments including the opening of a Starbucks location at Minnesota Avenue and Ruben Torres Sr. Boulevard, creating new jobs and expanding amenities for residents.

Through responsive leadership and community engagement, Commissioner Macias remains committed to strengthening neighborhoods and improving the quality of life for residents across District 2 and the City of Brownsville.
