Brownsville, TX — July 17, 2025 — In response to recent federal education budget reductions, Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) is implementing a revised schedule for its after-school programs, ensuring continued access to enrichment and support services for students while adapting to the funding changes.

Beginning August 19, 2025, BISD Academies (extended day) will operate three (3) days a week — Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday — from immediately after student dismissal to 5:30 pm at all elementary campuses.

Despite the changes, BISD remains deeply committed to providing high-quality opportunities that support student learning, engagement, and safety after school hours.

“While federal funding reductions have required us to make adjustments, our priority remains the same — to serve and support every child,” said Dr. Jesus H. Chavez, Superintendent of Schools. “We are proud to continue offering after-school programs and will work closely with families to ensure a smooth transition.”

Families are encouraged to contact their child’s campus for more information and updates. Additional details can also be found on the district’s website at www.bisd.us.
