WASHINGTON – U.S. Border Patrol arrests between ports of entry declined again in July, continuing a downward trend reported in federal enforcement data.
The figures cover encounters across the southwest border and reflect changes in migration patterns, enforcement and federal policy. Monthly totals can fluctuate by sector, and the Rio Grande Valley remains one of several regions monitored closely by Customs and Border Protection.
Officials cautioned that encounter statistics measure enforcement events rather than the total number of people attempting to cross and may include repeat encounters.
