Brownsville travelers will soon have a new, convenient way to reach one of the nation’s most popular destinations. Beginning May 15, 2026, the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport (BRO) will offer year-round, nonstop flights to Orlando International Airport (MCO) on Mondays and Fridays through Breeze Airways.
The new BRO–MCO service marks a major milestone for the airport and the Rio Grande Valley, providing a direct connection to Florida and expanding travel opportunities for residents, families, and businesses. Orlando is a key destination for leisure travel, tourism, conventions, and also serves as a hub for technology, engineering, and advanced manufacturing.
Commissioner At-Large “A” Tino Villarreal Jr. highlighted the importance of the airport as a gateway to the city.
“The Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport is the first impression and the last impression when people arrive and leave Brownsville via an airplane,” Villarreal said. “I’m very proud that this is the first impression and last impression.”
Villarreal emphasized that the addition of Breeze Airways benefits both the local economy and Brownsville families.
“It supports our local businesses by increasing tourism, it gives our residents the opportunity to take their children and families to Orlando, and it keeps Brownsville competitive in this rapidly growing region,” he said.
The nonstop service significantly reduces travel time and strengthens ties between the Rio Grande Valley and one of the country’s most active travel and business markets.
Bud Hafer, Government and Airport Affairs Director for Breeze Airways, said the decision to add Brownsville to the airline’s network was driven by strong demand for service to Orlando.
“We are excited to add Brownsville as the eighty-fourth destination in our network, so today is a big announcement,” Hafer said. “You are a big part of that, and we are excited to start this summer.”
Hafer added that introductory airfares will start as low as $79, and flights are available for booking immediately.
District 2 Commissioner Linda C. Macias called the new service a big win for Brownsville and its airport.
“My goal is to ensure that we have an awesome, exciting experience when we continue flying out from Brownsville,” Macias said. “Today, we announce that Breeze Airlines will be flying out to Orlando, Florida.”
Macias noted that data showed approximately 400 Brownsville residents regularly traveled to Orlando but did not use the local airport. Recognizing this gap, the City of Brownsville partnered with stakeholders to ensure families have convenient access to travel options and services close to home.
Interim City Manager Alan Guard said the partnership with Breeze Airways aligns with Brownsville’s continued growth and future direction.
“As our city continues to grow—fueled by innovation, manufacturing, aerospace, logistics, and tourism—reliable and expanded air service becomes increasingly vital,” Guard said. “This new nonstop connection enhances our ability to attract investment, support local businesses, and give residents convenient access to major destinations.”
Guard also encouraged community support for the new service.
“That’s why it’s so important for our community to help make this new airline service a success,” he said. “Choosing to fly locally makes a difference. When we back services like this, we send a powerful message: Brownsville is a strong, reliable market that’s worth investing in.”
