Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport is set to receive $1,491,504 in federal funding for airfield signage improvements intended to strengthen safety and operations at the airport.
The funding comes through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Airport Improvement Program and will be used to replace critical airfield signage at the airport.
The improvements are designed to help pilots navigate the airfield safely and support the airport’s compliance with federal aviation standards as passenger, business and regional travel needs continue to grow.
Congressman Vicente Gonzalez said the airport is an important gateway for the region and said the signage project is an investment in the airport’s long-term future.
Airport officials said the grant will help replace aging signage, improve operational efficiency and support the airport’s ability to serve residents, visitors and the broader South Texas region.
The funding is tied to the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act of 2024, which reauthorized aviation programs through fiscal year 2028 and includes support for airport infrastructure, safety improvements, aviation technology and passenger experience projects.
