The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) recently partnered with Prairie View A&M University Extension to host an informational seminar aimed at helping local business owners compete for government contracts.
The seminar focused on the Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Certification Program, an initiative by the State of Texas to assist businesses owned by women, minorities, and service-disabled veterans. Participants learned about the application process and the benefits of certification, including greater visibility on the state comptroller’s HUB directory.
“It’s really important for our minority groups here in the Rio Grande Valley to get this certificate,” said Megan Rodriguez, a Community and Economic Development Agent. “This certification gives businesses additional opportunities to be recognized on the state comptroller’s website and compete for state agency contracts.”
