Brownsville Comes Together for the 33rd H-E-B Feast of Sharing

The holiday spirit filled the Jacob Brown Auditorium as H-E-B hosted its 33rd Annual Feast of Sharing in Brownsville. This beloved tradition brings families, volunteers, and neighbors together around a warm, home-cooked meal.

This year, H-E-B prepared more than 7,000 meals for residents, serving a traditional holiday plate complete with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and a slice of pumpkin pie.

Audrey Treviño-Guerra, H-E-B Public Affairs Manager, said the Feast of Sharing represents much more than a meal.

“This is a way for us to give back to our customers, not only to celebrate the holidays but to be able to share a warm meal together,” Treviño-Guerra said.

Through H-E-B’s Hunger Relief Program, the company continues to serve communities across Texas and Mexico, providing millions of pounds of food each year to families in need. Treviño-Guerra noted that the demand for assistance has grown, but H-E-B remains committed to ensuring that no one goes hungry during the holidays.

Brownsville City Commissioner District 3 Gustavo De Leon said Feast of Sharing reminds us that Thanksgiving is more than just a day, it’s a season of compassion. “It’s time when we open our hearts to one another , lend a hand to those in need, and celebrate the bonds that make our communities strong.”

Among those lending a helping hand was Maria Velarde, a longtime volunteer and member of the North Brownsville Rotary Club. For her, the event embodies the true meaning of service.

“As a volunteer, you’re doing good for your community. You’re doing good to give back to those in your community. It’s not just come, work, and leave,” Velarde said.

She added that many Rotary members view the Feast of Sharing as part of their mission to address essential needs like hunger, health, and education — all while strengthening the bonds that connect neighbors.

The event also drew families and young residents who came not only for the food but for the joy and entertainment that filled the auditorium.

For student Jorge Plata, who’s attending for the second time, said he looks forward to it every year.

“I think it’s amazing,” he said with a smile. “I’m looking forward to the performances, the pie, and the food.”

The Feast of Sharing, launched in 1989, has grown into a statewide celebration of generosity, gratitude, and community spirit. With festive music, holiday cheer, and the kindness of hundreds of volunteers, Brownsville’s gathering once again reminded everyone that the holidays are about connection, compassion, and coming together as one city.
