BROWNSVILLE, TX – The Brownsville Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a $609.3 million operating budget for the 2025-2026 school year during a Special Called Meeting on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
Recommended by district administration, this budget provides the financial foundation to support educational programs and district operations across all BISD campuses and departments for the upcoming year. The approval was finalized ahead of the July 1 deadline, which is the start of the fiscal year and the legal date by which districts must adopt a balanced budget.
“This budget reflects our continued commitment to providing quality education and essential services to our students, staff and community,” said Superintendent Dr. Jesus Chavez. “The administration worked diligently to develop a comprehensive budget that addresses our educational priorities while maintaining fiscal responsibility. We thank the Board of Trustees for their collaborative effort in working with our administration to approve this budget.”
The district is projected to receive $489.6 million in state and local revenues and $102.7 million from federal programs and other resources.
The board also approved the employee compensation plan for the 2025-2026 school year, which will include the following:
- Teachers with 1-2 years of experience will receive a $1,250 increase, those with 3-4 years will receive $2,500, and teachers with 5 or more years will receive $5,000.
- The starting pay for teachers will be set at $56,000.
- Non-teaching professional staff will receive a 2% increase based on the midpoint of their respective pay grades, along with strategic adjustments for eligible employees to better align with market value.
- Classified employees will also receive a 2% increase based on the midpoint of their pay grades, along with adjustments for eligible employees to better align with market value.
