Brownsville Man Arrested After Authorities Report Finding 1,470 THC Vapes

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — A 19-year-old Brownsville man was arrested after Cameron County sheriff’s investigators reported finding approximately 1,470 THC vape pens, THC-infused gummies, marijuana and more than $6,200 during an operation at a home.

The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Leonardo Villegas. Authorities said investigators went to a residence in the 2200 block of El Cauce Street on Friday while acting on arrest warrants.

Investigators reported seizing bulk-packaged vape pens, bags of THC-infused gummies, pre-rolled cigarettes, a mason jar containing marijuana and $6,221 in U.S. currency. The Sheriff’s Office said the marijuana weighed about 39.8 ounces and estimated the combined street value of the seized narcotics at approximately $88,000.

Villegas was charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2 or 2-A involving approximately 2,940 grams and possession of marijuana, according to authorities. The Sheriff’s Office also listed outstanding warrants involving marijuana possession, evading arrest with a vehicle and manufacture or delivery.

Authorities said the investigation began after receiving information that the home was being used to store and distribute illegal narcotics. The allegations have not been proven in court, and Villegas was awaiting arraignment when the arrest was announced.
