BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Brownsville Metro is planning safety upgrades at seven bus stops across the city, including a stop near Hanna High School where transit officials say the current layout creates concerns for riders and bus operators.
The work at the Hanna High School stop is expected to include a curb cut that allows buses to pull fully out of the travel lane, as well as a new three-seat shelter with lighting. The improvements are intended to improve visibility, passenger comfort and the separation between buses and moving traffic.
Transit officials estimated the work at that location could cost between $50,000 and $60,000. Bids are expected to be sought in May, with construction targeted for completion next fall.
Citywide upgrades are intended to make regular transit stops safer and more accessible for people who use Brownsville Metro services.
