Special to BTXToday – City leaders, faith leaders, law enforcement officers, and community members gathered Thursday morning at the Brownsville Event Center to observe the National Day of Prayer and take part in the Brownsville Police Department’s annual flag-raising ceremony.
Held on the first Thursday of May, the National Day of Prayer is a longstanding tradition that invites individuals of all faiths to unite in unified prayer for the nation’s leaders, communities, and future. In Brownsville, this interfaith event symbolized unity and hope, with local leaders offering words of encouragement, spiritual reflection, and community support.
The ceremony also marked the beginning of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Month, a national observance in May dedicated to honoring law enforcement officers’ dedication, service, and sacrifices. The Brownsville Police Department participated in a formal flag-raising to show respect for officers past and present.
The City of Brownsville encourages residents to continue honoring law enforcement throughout May and to participate in community initiatives that strengthen partnerships between public safety and the citizens they serve.
