With summer break officially underway, the City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department is offering a full schedule of activities designed to keep families active, connected, and engaged throughout the season.
From Lunadas and swimming programs to exercise classes, summer recreation activities, and meal offerings at city parks, residents have a variety of opportunities to stay involved while school is out.
According to Parks and Recreation Director Sean DePalma, the department’s summer programs are designed to provide fun, accessible opportunities for residents of all ages to enjoy Brownsville’s parks, facilities, and community spaces.
For children, Parks and Recreation is offering summer recreation programming at Gonzalez Park and the Downtown Recreation Center. The program provides a safe and supervised environment where kids can participate in sports, games, arts and crafts, and other recreational activities designed to keep them active and engaged during the summer months.
Meal offerings are also available at select park locations, helping support families while children participate in activities throughout the day.
City officials say these programs play an important role in promoting healthy lifestyles, fostering social connections, and ensuring residents have access to positive recreational opportunities during the summer.
The department is also offering aquatics programming, including swimming and learn-to-swim classes that focus on water safety, basic swimming skills, and building confidence in and around the water.
For adults and seniors, Parks and Recreation continues to offer a variety of fitness and wellness opportunities, including Zumba, Pilates, Boot Camp, birding, and gardening classes.
In addition, community events such as Lunadas provide opportunities for families and neighbors to gather, enjoy live entertainment, and spend quality time together in public spaces.
City leaders encourage residents to take advantage of the many programs available this summer and explore the parks, recreation centers, and community events offered throughout Brownsville.
