As families and friends across Brownsville prepare to celebrate Labor Day weekend, the City of Brownsville is reminding everyone to make safety a priority and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Labor Day weekend, September 5–7, 2026, is a time for gatherings, cookouts, travel, and enjoying the final weeks of summer. Whether residents are celebrating at home, visiting family and friends, or attending community activities, everyone has a role in keeping Brownsville’s streets safe.
If your plans include alcohol, make transportation arrangements before the celebration begins. Choose a designated sober driver, use a rideshare or taxi service, or arrange to stay with family or friends.
Drivers are also encouraged to remain alert, obey posted speed limits, wear their seat belts, avoid distractions such as texting, and watch carefully for pedestrians, cyclists, and other motorists.
A safe celebration starts with a safe decision.
Residents are encouraged to remember these important safety tips:
- Never drive after drinking alcohol or using an impairing substance.
- Plan for a sober ride before heading out.
- Never ride with someone who may be impaired.
- Buckle up on every trip, no matter how short.
- Put the phone away and stay focused on the road.
- Follow speed limits and allow extra time to reach your destination safely.
- If you see a suspected impaired driver and it is safe to do so, contact local law enforcement.
The City of Brownsville wishes residents and visitors a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend.
Celebrate responsibly. Drive sober. Help keep Brownsville safe.
