The Brownsville Police Department is partnering with the Texas Department of Transportation for the “Click It or Ticket” campaign, running from May 19 through June 1. This safety initiative reminds all passengers to buckle up in every seat, every ride.

The goal is to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities. In 2024, four crashes in Brownsville involved unbelted passengers—resulting in one fatality and four injuries, according to TxDOT.

Seat belts are required by Texas law for all vehicle occupants, front and back. Violations can result in fines and court costs up to $200.

Children under 8 years old must be in a child safety or booster seat unless they’re taller than 4 feet 9 inches. Failure to comply could mean a fine of up to $250.
