BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Brownsville Police Department is investigating a shots-fired incident reported early Saturday outside the home of City Commissioner Tino Villarreal Jr.
Police said investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any suspects. The department said it will pursue appropriate criminal charges if the investigation establishes that an offense occurred.
The department did not identify a suspect or release further details about what led to the incident in its initial public statement.
Villarreal canceled a town hall that had been planned to discuss the memorandum of understanding involving SpaceX and Brownsville’s water infrastructure. He said he plans to reschedule the meeting after the investigation is concluded and circumstances allow for a safe public discussion.
Mayor John Cowen said he had been briefed by police and urged residents to share information with the department’s tip line rather than speculate on social media.
The investigation remains active.
