BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Brownsville has entered Stage 1 of its drought contingency plan, prompting the city to ask residents and businesses to reduce nonessential water use.
Stage 1 is intended to increase public awareness and encourage voluntary conservation before conditions require stricter measures. Residents are asked to check irrigation systems for leaks, avoid watering during the hottest part of the day and use water-efficient practices at homes and businesses.
The city also urged customers to repair dripping faucets, run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads, and limit water use for cleaning paved areas when other methods are available.
Brownsville officials said conservation by the community can help protect the local water supply and reduce demand during continuing dry conditions. Residents should monitor city notices for any change in the drought stage or additional requirements.
