Brownsville Tops 2026 List of Safest U.S. Cities for Drivers

Brownsville is again at the top of a national safe-driving list, according to a new StudyFinds report based on Allstate’s 2026 America’s Best Drivers Report.

StudyFinds reported that Brownsville ranked No. 1 among the 200 largest U.S. cities for the second straight year, with drivers averaging 14.99 years between collisions. The report said the ranking is based on Allstate property damage claim frequency from January 2023 through December 2024.

The national average in the report was 10.86 years between claims. Boston ranked as the riskiest city in the report, with drivers averaging 3.76 years between collisions, according to StudyFinds.

For Brownsville drivers, the ranking gives the city another positive national mention in an area that affects everyday life: commuting to work, taking children to school, driving to South Padre Island or Port Isabel, and moving through busy corridors such as Expressway 77/83, Boca Chica Boulevard, Paredes Line Road and Ruben M. Torres Boulevard.

The report does not mean Brownsville roads are free of risk. It reflects how often Allstate customers filed property damage claims in each city, then compares those rates across the 200 largest U.S. cities. StudyFinds noted that the data represents Allstate’s share of the insurance market, not every crash or every driver in the country.

Still, Brownsville’s placement stands out because the city ranked ahead of other large communities where drivers went longer between reported collisions. Fort Collins, Colorado, ranked just behind Brownsville, while Boise, Idaho, and Laredo, Texas, also appeared near the top of the list.

Texas cities performed strongly overall. StudyFinds reported that Laredo and McAllen were among the cities near the top of the safest-driving rankings, giving the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas a notable presence in the report.

Allstate’s report is meant to promote safe-driving awareness and is not designed to set insurance rates. Insurance costs can depend on several factors beyond citywide collision frequency, including a driver’s personal record, vehicle type, coverage choices, repair costs and insurer-specific pricing.

For local residents, the ranking is a reminder that safe driving is shaped by everyday habits: slowing down, avoiding distractions, giving space at intersections, watching for pedestrians and cyclists, and adjusting for rain, construction zones or heavy traffic near schools and commercial areas.

The report gives Brownsville a strong mark, but the practical takeaway is simple: keeping that ranking depends on drivers continuing to make careful choices on local roads.
