Brownsville Wins Best City Again in Herald Readers’ Choice Awards

The City of Brownsville has once again been recognized for its commitment to excellence, earning the title of “The Best City” in The Brownsville Herald’s 2025 Annual Readers’ Choice Awards. This marks the second consecutive year the City has received this prestigious honor.

Being selected once again reflects the trust, pride, and confidence Brownsville residents have in their city and its leadership.

Over the past year, the City has continued to focus on enhancing quality of life through improved services, infrastructure investments, community engagement initiatives, and economic development efforts. From sustainability programs to public safety enhancements and cultural events, Brownsville has worked to ensure the city remains a vibrant and welcoming place for all.

Brownsville’s rapid transformation is being driven by strategic, forward-looking investments across multiple sectors.

  • Economic Development- continues to gain momentum through major business expansions, including growth in the space economy anchored by SpaceX’s Starbase, advancements in the energy sector with NextDecade’s Rio Grande Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, and increased global trade activity supported by the City’s working seaport, the Brownsville Navigation District, doing business as the Port of Brownsville.

These efforts reflect the City’s commitment to creating healthy, inclusive, and livable communities.

  •  Wage Growth and Job Creation -continue to reflect the City’s economic progress, with rising median wages, increased intergenerational earning potential, and the attraction of high-paying industries that are creating long-term opportunities for Brownsville residents.

The Brownsville City Commission this year approved a $215 million Capital Improvement Plan that includes critical investments in roads, drainage, traffic infrastructure, parks, public safety, and quality-of-life projects.
