The Brownsville City Commission on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, issued a proclamation declaring the day as “Helen Ramirez Day,” recognizing City Manager Helen Ramirez, ICMA,-CM, AICP, for her transformative leadership and lasting contributions to the City of Brownsville.
Ramirez, who made history as Brownsville’s first ever female city manager, announced in October that she will step down from her role at the end of the year.
During her three-year tenure as city manager, she guided the city through a period of unprecedented progress, elevating Brownsville’s profile regionally and nationally. Ramirez was hired in 2019 as a deputy city manager. In 2022 she was named city manager.
Under her leadership, the city saw significant economic development, major infrastructure expansions, and the launch of transformative quality-of-life initiatives. Ramirez also championed critical fiber connectivity projects, advancing Brownsville’s long-term digital infrastructure and improving access for residents and businesses in a rapidly growing community.
City officials praised Ramirez for her vision, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to public service. The proclamation highlighted her ability to bring partners together, secure investment, and modernize city operations—impactful achievements that will continue shaping Brownsville’s trajectory for years to come.
