City of Brownsville to Host 101st Texas Public Health Association State Conference

The City of Brownsville’s Public Health, Wellness and Animal Services Department will host the 101st Texas Public Health Association (TPHA) Annual Education Conference, May 13–15, 2025, at the Brownsville Events Center. The conference is titled, Launching into the Future of Public Health: On the Border, By the Sea and Beyond, will feature multiple education sessions on Epidemiology, Health Education, Administration, and Environmental and Consumer Health.

 Hundreds of public health professionals, educators, students, and community leaders from across the state will gather to learn, discuss, and address pressing health challenges and explore innovative strategies for healthier communities.

 “This conference is a celebration of public health leadership and collaboration,” said Dr. Art Rodriguez, Director of Public Health, Wellness and Animal Services at the City of Brownsville. “We are honored to host TPHA and to spotlight Brownsville as a thriving hub for health innovation, education, and resilience.”

 The three-day conference will feature:

  •  Plenary sessions on infectious disease impacts and bi-national health partnerships
  • Breakout sessions covering epidemiology, mental health, environmental health, community health workers, and more
  • Mobile workshops including “Activating Brownsville: Unlocking Health Through Knowledge in Motion.
  • Poster exhibitions, networking, and an awards dinner honoring public health excellence

 Sessions will highlight local, state, and national issues ranging from maternal care deserts in rural Texas to data-driven solutions for chronic disease and health equity.

The conference is hosted in partnership with the City of Brownsville, supported by the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau, and underscores the Brownsville’s commitment to advancing health outcomes for all residents.
