As the Atlantic Hurricane Season officially kicks off, the City of Brownsville is taking proactive steps to help residents and businesses prepare for potential storms. In alignment with its ongoing emergency preparedness efforts, the City will host a free sandbag distribution event on Thursday, July 10, 2025, to assist the community in protecting their property.

Eligible residents and business owners may receive up to six (6) sandbags per household or business. To participate, individuals must present proof of residency, which can include a valid driver’s license or a utility bill accompanied by a photo ID.

Sandbags will be distributed from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the following two locations:

  • Fronton Warehouse – 298 McNair Drive (formerly E. Fronton), Brownsville, TX 78520
  • Public Works Office Building – 6035 Jaime J. Zapata, Brownsville, TX 78521

This initiative is part of the City’s “Brownsville Ready” campaign, which emphasizes community preparedness and resilience during hurricane season, running from June 1 through November 30.
