Construction is in progress for the full reconstruction of Old Highway 77, with sections of the roadway removed to make way for the new improvements.
Barricades have been installed at the intersection of Old Highway 77 and Ruben Torres Sr. Boulevard to help motorists navigate the construction area.
The reconstruction project will include tearing up the current roadway, installing a new base, and resurfacing the road with fresh asphalt. New curbs and gutters will also be constructed, along with a 10-foot-wide sidewalk on the east side and a 5-foot-wide sidewalk on the west side.
The upgrade includes new road lanes, sidewalks, waterlines, sewer lines, and drainage systems. The project is expected to take approximately two years to complete.
Motorists are encouraged to follow all posted traffic signs and exercise caution while traveling near the construction zone.
