The National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley has issued a Flood Watch for Brownsville through Friday morning due to the risk of heavy rainfall & flash flooding across the region.

The Brownsville Fire Department urges residents to stay alert for standing water and reduced visibility when traveling on the roads.

According to the NWS, there’s a Marginal to Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall across Deep South Texas, including Brownsville, through tonight. This increases the potential for localized flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas.

As the system continues overnight into Friday, the risk remains elevated. A slight risk for severe weather persists into early Friday. Thursday night storms could produce:

  • Damaging winds (58-70 mph)
  • Heavy rainfall (1-2 inches or more)
  • Frequent lightning
  • Isolated tornadoes
  • Large hail

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates closely, secure outdoor objects, and have a reliable way to receive emergency alerts overnight.
