SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – A new food and music festival inspired by Jimmy Buffett's island style is scheduled for Nov. 21 at the Cameron County Amphitheater and Event Center in Isla Blanca Park.
The one-day Cheeseburgers in Paradise festival will combine live music, food, margaritas and a cheeseburger competition. Organizers scheduled the event during the fall tourism season in an effort to bring visitors to South Padre Island outside the summer peak.
The venue is at 53550 Dolphin Cove. Food and beverage activities are expected to begin from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by live performances.
The announced lineup includes the Stinson Brotherz performing a Jimmy Buffett tribute called "Journey into MargaritaWorld." Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Mac McAnally is scheduled to headline.
A cheeseburger cook-off will award a trophy selected by judges, including VIP ticket holders. Plans also include a VIP lounge, silent auction and an optional experience aboard a Spanish galleon-style pirate ship. Margaritaville Beach Resort South Padre Island is partnering with the festival, but guests are not required to stay there.
Ticket prices were announced from $25 for general options to $200 for an ultra-VIP package. Buyers should confirm current prices, age rules and included benefits through the official ticket seller before purchasing.
The South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Advisory Board approved $25,000 in financial support after discussing the event's potential tourism benefit and its location on county property. The festival is being produced by South Texas Live.
